Catherine Amirfar

Catherine Amirfar is Co-Chair of the International Dispute Resolution and Public International Law Groups at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Her practice focuses on public international law, international commercial and treaty arbitration, and complex international commercial litigation.

 

With over twenty years of experience, Ms. Amirfar has argued before international arbitration tribunals sitting around the world, as well as the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), and U.S. courts. She is the lead counsel for the Commission of Small Island States (COSIS) in the landmark advisory opinion proceeding related to climate change before ITLOS, and is Co-Chair of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) Panel of Experts to Develop a Paris Agreement Conciliation Annex.

 

Ms. Amirfar currently serves as the Immediate Past President of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) and as a member of the U.S. Department of State’s Advisory Committee on International Law, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Governing Board of ICCA, and the Court of Arbitration of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
